Stronger Together: April’s Non-Profit Gathering Recap
I am still buzzing from the energy at our Miami County Non-Profit Gathering on April 16th! We had 35 local organizations join us at Town Square Events. The “rapid-fire” introductions were truly electric.
It was great to see so many passionate leaders sharing their missions and finding new ways to collaborate.
During the event, we shared the results of our recent Community Survey, which will help guide our future impact.
And the winner is…
We held a drawing for all organizations in attendance, and we are thrilled to give the Osawatomie Senior Center a $500 donation!
We’ll be doing another drawing at our next event, so make sure your organization is there next time.
Looking Ahead to Fall
Our committee is already hard at work planning a half-day workshop for late August or early September. We want to provide the specific training you need most. We will be sharing the official “Save the Date” by June 1st, so keep an eye on your inbox!
Fund & Event Spotlight: The 12th Annual Avelyn SonShine Walk
This month, I am deeply honored to highlight the Avelyn SonShine fund and the story of Avelyn KayLee Grace. Her parents, Michele and Josh, share a powerful journey of faith. Though Avelyn’s time on earth was short, her legacy is a miracle in progress. Through their fund, they have donated countless children’s Bibles.
The name “Grace” was added to Avelyn’s name because they felt God’s hand at work even before she was born. I was so moved to learn about the moments they spent talking to her, singing “You are my Sunshine,” “Overcomer,” and “Beautiful Girl.” Their prayer now is to do something long-lasting that makes a positive difference in the lives of others.
12th Annual Let Your Light Shine Family 1 Mile Walk & 5k

Whether you are local to the Goodland area or want to support us right here in Miami County, we would love for you to register now for the 12th Annual Let Your Light Shine Family 1 Mile Walk & 5k!
- Spring Hill/KC/Virtual: Run or walk at your own convenience! Many of us here in Miami County take to the local trails in solidarity and send photos to Michele to show our support.
- Goodland Location: Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church. There will be a Silent Auction, a group picture, and the walk begins at 8:30 a.m.
- Cost: $20 for adults / $15 for kids.

Local Recipe Spotlight: Linda’s Layered Salad
Since May features Mother’s Day, I wanted to share a recipe that comes from my mom, Linda Fenoughty, who is the absolute rock of our family.
Fun fact: we actually share a birthday on June 2nd! (I was her 9lb birthday present 60 years ago!)
She is 82 now and lives just a block away from me. She’s taught me everything about being a mom and being strong. While she has a harder time chopping vegetables these days, my daughter Sydney steps in to help her prepare this for all our holiday get-togethers.
It’s a tradition of connection that I just love.
Ingredients:
- 1 head lettuce
- 1 head cauliflower
- 1 red onion
- 1 pint real mayonnaise
- 2 cans/bags of real bacon pieces
- 1 cup parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions:
- Layer in order as shown above in a bowl.
- Cover and seal and let sit in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
- When ready to serve, dump into a larger bowl and mix well.
It’s simple, delicious, and tastes like home!
