Walking Together for Hope: Stomp Out Suicide 5K Recap
A big high-five to everyone who laced up their sneakers and joined us at the Flint Hills Trail in Osawatomie on Saturday, September 12th, for the Stomp Out Suicide (SOS) 5K Walk/Run!
Seeing our community come together to step onto the trail, honor loved ones, and break the silence surrounding mental health in honor of Joshua, Brain and Debbie McQuay’s son, is a powerful way of turning a tragedy into a beacon of hope and action for Miami County.
Thanks to your participation, SOS can continue its vital work equipping local schools across Miami and Linn counties with critical suicide prevention training and early-intervention mental health resources.

Local Recipe & Educator Spotlight
This month, we are delighted to feature Annie Goode, a 6th Grade Language Arts teacher in Louisburg!
Beyond her everyday dedication in the classroom, Annie has spent the past six years pouring her heart into the TeamMates Mentoring Program. Through her work as a mentor, she has seen firsthand the life-changing power of simply showing up for a child.
As Annie shares, “Mentoring is about so much more than offering advice or academic support: it’s about building a relationship, earning a child’s trust, and being someone they know they can count on.”
Over the years, Annie has watched her mentee grow in confidence, tackle tough challenges, and truly begin to believe in herself and her future. “Sometimes, simply having an adult who listens, encourages, and reminds the mentee of their potential can make all the difference,” Annie reflected.
Programs like TeamMates help local students understand that they are seen, valued, and capable of achieving far more than they ever thought possible.
We are so lucky to have dedicated, caring educators like Annie guiding and inspiring the youth in our Miami County schools! Thank you for sharing this recipe with us.
