GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCE

Life insurance provides an easy way for you to give a significant gift to the community upon your death with tax benefits that you can enjoy now.  With a paid-up policy or one that you still pay premiums, you may make the Miami County Community Foundation the owner and irrevocable beneficiary of the policy and receive a tax deduction for the approximate cost or fair market value, whichever is less.  You may receive an immediate tax deduction if the policy is paid up.  If not, you may claim continuing tax deductions for the premium payments you make.

It may be that you would like to contribute the proceeds of a life insurance policy to the Foundation, but you are not yet ready to give up ownership of the policy.  In this case, you may name the Miami County Community Foundation as a beneficiary, and you retain ownership of the policy along with access to the cash value.  You would have the right to change the beneficiary at your discretion as well.

Upon your death, a special fund would be established in your name, the name of your family or in honor of any person or organization you may choose. The Board of Trustees would consider your charitable wishes and issue grants in the name of the fund you establish, or awards may be made anonymously if you would prefer.  The Foundation manages all fiscal aspects of the fund.  Your gift and the future earnings of it would help continue to do good work in the community in perpetuity.
